Find phone number with GSTIN checks are not only for buyers and suppliers. Job seekers increasingly receive offer letters, appointment letters and “onboarding kits” that print a GSTIN to look official. Some are genuine. Many fake job offers use real-looking letterheads with a GSTIN copied from a real business or simply made up, then ask the candidate for a registration fee, a training deposit or bank details. A few minutes spent checking the GSTIN and calling the employer on a number you found yourself can save money and protect your identity.
This guide shows how to check an employer’s GSTIN, how to find an independent phone number for the employer, and which signs mean you should stop.
A GSTIN looks technical and official, and most people do not know they can check it. Fraudsters print one to borrow credibility, sometimes using the GSTIN of a well-known company so that a quick search seems to confirm the offer. The check is not whether the GSTIN exists, but whether it belongs to the employer in the letter and whether that employer is really offering you the job.

Enter the GSTIN in the public taxpayer search. Note the legal name, trade name, status, constitution and address. Compare them with the letter. The company name should match the legal or trade name; the city should match where the office is said to be; and the status should be active. A cancelled registration, a mismatch in name, or an individual’s proprietorship pretending to be a large company are all warning signs.
Do not call the number printed in the offer or the one that contacted you; if the offer is fake, that line belongs to the fraudster. Search the employer’s legal name and city to find its official website, and use the contact or careers page. For companies, the corporate registry shows the registered office and a filed email. Map listings for the office address may show a reception landline.

Call the number you found yourself and ask for human resources or the recruitment team. Give the name of the person who contacted you, the role and the date of the letter, and ask whether the offer is genuine. Large employers often publish warnings about fake offers on their careers pages and keep an email address for reporting them.
Offers made without any interview, unusually high pay for little experience, email addresses on general webmail domains rather than the company’s domain, pressure to accept within hours, and requests for bank login details, card numbers or one-time passwords are all common in fake recruitment. So are letters with spelling mistakes in the company’s own name.

Until the offer is confirmed, do not send money, bank passwords, card details, codes received on your phone, or scans of identity documents beyond what a genuine employer would need after you join. Legitimate employers collect documents through their official onboarding systems after a real interview.

If the offer is fake, report it through the national cybercrime reporting portal or helpline, and inform the real company whose name or GSTIN was misused so it can warn others. If you have already paid, report quickly and contact your bank at once; speed improves the chance of stopping the transfer.
Share what you found with fellow candidates, campus placement cells or online groups where the offer circulated. A quick note that the GSTIN belongs to a different business, and that the real employer denied the offer, can stop others from paying.
