GST B2B company lookup gives you one view of a business: its tax registration. For an important supplier, customer or partner, that view is worth widening. Indian businesses typically hold several registrations, each kept by a different authority and each revealing something different: corporate identity and directors, small-enterprise status, import and export activity, food safety licensing. Checking them together, linked through the PAN, shows whether the business is consistent across records and gives you more trustworthy routes to its people.
This guide covers the main registries, what each contributes, how to link them, and what inconsistencies to watch for.
Most business registrations link back to the holder’s PAN. It sits inside the GSTIN, it is recorded in the company’s corporate filings, Udyam registration is tied to it, and the import-export code for most entities now matches it. Using the PAN, you can confirm that registrations under different names belong to the same business.

The public GST search gives the legal and trade names, constitution, status, registration date, places of business, activities and filing history. It is the most frequently updated record and shows whether the business is actively trading.
For companies and LLPs, the corporate registry shows the identification number, incorporation date, status, registered office, filed email, and directors or designated partners. Annual filings add financial statements. A company marked as struck off or under closure should not be trading, whatever its GST status shows.

Micro, small and medium enterprises register on the Udyam portal and receive a Udyam number. It shows the enterprise’s classification and activity. For buyers, it matters because micro and small suppliers are protected by statutory payment limits and interest on delayed payments; for sellers, it supports access to schemes and credit.
An importer-exporter code from the directorate of foreign trade is needed for most import and export activity. A supplier claiming to export, or a buyer importing your goods, should hold one. The code’s details show the entity’s name and address as registered for foreign trade.
Manufacturers, traders, distributors and caterers of food need registration or a licence from the food safety authority. The licence number appears on packaging and invoices and can be verified, along with the licensed premises and validity. For a food supplier, an expired licence is a serious warning.

Small differences are normal: a trade name in one record and a legal name in another, or an older address in a registry that changes less often. Larger ones deserve questions: different PANs, a company struck off but GST active, an IEC in a different name, or a food licence for different premises. Ask the business to explain before relying on it.
Each registry gives you something useful for reaching people: directors’ names and a filed email from the corporate registry, the enterprise’s address from Udyam, licensed premises from the food authority. Combined with the GST places of business, these point to the right person and the right site, without needing anyone’s private number.
A full cross-registry check is worth doing for new suppliers above a spend threshold, distributors and franchisees, customers seeking credit, partners in joint bids, and any food or export supply chain. For small one-off purchases, the GST lookup alone is usually enough.
