Find mobile number by GSTN is a phrase that mixes up two things. GSTN is the Goods and Services Tax Network, the organisation that builds and runs the IT system behind GST: the portal, the return filing engine and the links to the e-invoice and e-way bill systems. The fifteen-character number on an invoice is the GSTIN, the identification number. People often type GSTN when they mean GSTIN, and expect the network to hand over the mobile behind it.
The network does hold a verified mobile for every registration. Understanding what it uses that mobile for explains why it is one of the most closely guarded fields in the whole system.
GSTN was set up to provide a shared IT platform for the central and state tax administrations, taxpayers and other stakeholders. It runs the common portal where businesses register, file returns and pay tax, and it connects to state tax systems, banks and the systems for electronic invoices and e-way bills. It is the custodian of registration data, including contact details, for every taxpayer.

A registration starts with the applicant’s PAN, mobile and email, each verified with a separate one-time password. That mobile becomes the contact of the primary authorised signatory. Every other signatory added later also gives a mobile and email, verified the same way. From that moment the mobile is a security key for the account.
The network sends codes to the registered mobile when a taxpayer files a return using an electronic verification code instead of a digital signature, when an amendment or application needs verification, and when a password or username is reset. Two-factor authentication at login sends a code too. Alerts about due dates, notices and changes to the account also go to the registered mobile and email.

If a registered mobile were public, anyone could combine it with social engineering to trick the holder into reading out a code, or attempt to take over the account through a reset. Fraudsters already impersonate tax officials; a published list of registered mobiles would make that far easier. The network’s policy, the portal’s public search and the helpdesk all keep the field private for this reason.
The public side of the system shows a business’s names, address, constitution, activities, status and filing history. These are enough to verify that a GSTIN is genuine and active. Contact details are not part of that view and are not available through any official lookup for third parties.

Be wary of calls or messages that claim to come from the network and ask for a code, a password, or payment to avoid cancellation. The network communicates through the portal, registered email and messages, and does not ask taxpayers to share codes on a call. If in doubt, log in to the portal yourself and check notices there.

Since the network will not provide it, work from the public anchors. The trade name and address lead to listings and signboards; the constitution leads to the corporate registry for companies and LLPs; your own invoices and orders often carry the number. For a large job, a professional data provider can match GSTINs to published business contacts with a stated source for each.
As a taxpayer, keep the registered mobile on a connection the business controls, review signatories when staff change, and treat every code as private. Those habits are the other half of the protection the network provides.
